Het was toch al langer bekend dat dit eraan zat te komen? Wasn't it known a long time that this was coming? Wasn't it known a long time that this was coming?

Pas op 4 mei werd meer bekend over de kosten van het toezicht. De kosten strookten niet met de door de Minister Hoekstra geschepte verwachtingen en was voor ons de druppel die de emmer deed overlopen.

Only on May 4th more details on the exact costs of regulation were announced. Those costs were not in line with the expectations created by minister Hoekstra and this was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Helaas gaat het niet alleen om een eenmalige investering (er zijn al mensen die ons hebben aangeboden financieel te willen steunen), maar ook de kosten voor de volgende jaren zijn op dit moment niet goed in te schatten maar naar alle waarschijnlijkheid fors en maken het lastig om rendabel te blijven. Daarnaast zijn we ons meer en meer gaan storen aan hoe de opzet van het toezicht in Nederland geregeld is. En ligt het in de verwachting dat we veel tijd moeten besteden aan verzoeken vanuit de toezichthouder. Dit haalt ook het plezier uit het ondernemen. De Nederlandsche Bank heeft de mogelijkheid onze registratie in trekken of telkens meer voorwaarden te stellen. Net als een vergunning zijn we na het intrekken van deze registratie verplicht om onze bedrijfsvoering te staken. Dit zou in zo'n geval direct weerslag hebben op onze klanten.
Dit past niet bij onze persoonlijke principes en bij ons idee van ondernemerschap.

Unfortunately it is not just this one time investment (there have been people already that have offered us financial support), also the costs for the coming years cannot be estimated yet and in all likelihood they will be huge and make it very hard to remain profitable. Furthermore, we're becoming increasingly concerned about the way regulation is being organised in The Netherlands. We expect to have to spend a lot of time on requests from the regulator. This takes away the joy in doing business. The Dutch Bank has the power to revoke our registration or set more and more conditions. Just like a permit after revoking our registration we are obliged to discontinue our business immediately. This would also have a direct effect on our own customers.
This just does not fit our personal principles and our idea of entrepreneurship.

Blijft Arnhem Bitcoinstad bestaan? Will Arnhem Bitcoin City keep on existing? Will Arnhem Bitcoin City keep on existing?

Het wegvallen van BitKassa zal zeker impact hebben op Arnhem Bitcoinstad. We gaan met ondernemers kijken hoe we ze het beste kunnen helpen, wellicht met een alternatieve service. We zijn er van overtuigd dat een aantal ondernemers zal doorgaan met het accepteren van Bitcoin, maar we verwachten dat er ook ondernemers zullen zijn die stoppen. Overigens worden momenteel bijna alle Arnhemse ondernemers hard geraakt door de Corona maatregelen en zal het accepteren van Bitcoins momenteel geen prioriteit hebben.

BitKassa disappearing will definitely have its impact on Arnhem Bitcoin City. We will find out how we can support our merchants the best way, maybe with an alternative service. We are convinced a number of merchants will continue accepting Bitcoin but we expect a great deal of the merchants decide to stop. Besides, at the same time almost all merchants in Arnhem being hit hard by the Corona measures and accepting Bitcoin will understandably not be on top of their minds.

We gaan eerst dit netjes afhandelen en daarna zien we wel weer verder. We zijn nog altijd zeer enthousiast over Bitcoin dus de kans is groot dat we ons daarmee blijven bezighouden op een of andere manier.

Het overgrote deel van de klanten van BitKassa bevinden zich in Nederland en het verhuizen naar het buitenland zou niet voorkomen dat we alsnog onder het toezicht van DNB zouden komen te vallen. Overigens betwijfelen wij of buitenlandse partijen die actief zijn op de Nederlandse markt zich wel zullen registreren bij DNB, we zullen dit met interesse volgen.

The majority of BitKassa's customers reside within The Netherlands and moving abroad will not prevent us from being supervised by DNB. Although we doubt if foreign parties that are being active on the Dutch market will actually register at DNB but we will follow this with great interest.
